Silence After Stroke. Neuropsychological and Familial Consequences of Left-Hemisphere Stroke – A Case Study

Abstract

This article analyzes the consequences of ischemic stroke, focusing on motor, cognitive, and emotional impairments. The first part of the paper provides an overview of the underlying neurological mechanisms, the specific characteristics of aphasia, and relevant psychological aspects. The central element of the article is a case study of a patient who experienced a left-hemisphere stroke resulting in aphasia. Particular attention is also paid to the role of close family members and significant others in the recovery process. The analysis illustrates the dynamics of regaining functional abilities through the use of multiple rehabilitation approaches. The findings highlight that successful recovery depends not only on rehabilitation but, above all, on the quality of relationships with close others and the acceptance of a new way of living after stroke.
